Robertsbridge and Around

Robertsbridge, a beautiful village, with a history going back to about 1176, is a part of the Parish of Salehurst, which is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1085. The High Street contains several old timber framed buildings many of them dating from the 15th and 16th Centuries - some even earlier.

The village has several interesting pubs near Glenferness Bed & Breakfast, including, The Seven Stars, The George Inn and The Ostrich. Most of them serve lunch and/or evening meals and are all within walking distance from Glenferness. On the other side of the A21, in Salehurst, food can be obtained at the Salehurst Halt Pub. And further down the A21, about three miles south, there is The John's Cross Inn.

Robertsbridge is a very convenient base from which to explore many parts of Sussex and Kent. Glenferness is a few minutes drive from the A21 and is only 30 miles south of the M25/J5 and 40 miles from the Channel Tunnel. Glenferness is only 150 yards/metres from the railway station. Trains are available hourly to Battle, Tunbridge Wells, etc on the main line from Hastings to London.

Bonfire night is celebrated in great style every November in Robertsbridge. This is a very popular event with torch-lit processions, bonfires and wonderful firework displays that attract large numbers of visitors for a great family fun evening.

The 1066 Battle of Hastings re-enactment is held every year in October in Battle. Battle Abbey and the historical battle site are just five miles south of Glenferness Bed and Breakfast. Many of the participants and visitors find that Robertsbridge, with it's fine restaurants and pubs, is a good place to stay and unwind at the end of the day.
